Artist Statement
The fist is such an expressive gesture. It can convey rage, joy and celebration, determination, pain, frustration, victory, nervousness, violence, tension. These pieces are meant to be a kind of emotional narrative or road map of our life’s emotional journey. The phrase “map of our fist” comes from a poem by Brenda Cárdenas titled “A Wisconsin Poem for May Day 2011” and refers to the shape of the State of Wisconsin.
